HUDSONVILLE, Mich. -- The Adrian College WD1 hockey team earned a convincing 5–1 victory over Grand Valley State University on Friday night, powered by a strong second period and a steady effort in net from senior goaltender
Cassidy Dobson.
After a scoreless opening frame, the Bulldogs took control in the second. Junior Ashlynn Stitt opened the scoring midway through the period, with assists from graduate student Hailey Wiltshire and senior Tyla Turnbull. Just two minutes later, junior Sophie Kuzminski doubled the lead on the power play, extending Adrian's momentum. Although Grand Valley cut the deficit to one shortly after, Adrian answered right back with goals from sophomore Nadia Nickel and another from Stitt to close out the period with a commanding 4–1 lead.
Sophomore Brenna Ward added the lone tally in the third to seal the 5–1 victory, which would be her first collegiate career goal. Wiltshire and Turnbull each contributed multi-point performances, while Dobson stood tall between the pipes with 24 saves on 25 shots. The Bulldogs outshot the Lakers 70–25 and went 1-for-5 on the power play, while keeping Grand Valley scoreless on four opportunities.
The Bulldogs were set to host Grand Valley Saturday however, with ice maintenance issues the game has been postponed to another date.
The win improves Adrian's early-season record to a 4-6-2. The Bulldogs are set to head out to University of Michigan Thursday for a 9:00 PM puck drop and a road trip to Lake Superior State Saturday and Sunday.
