ADRIAN, Mich. -- The Adrian College ACHA men's D3 team hosted No. 6 Calvin University Friday afternoon, falling 3-0 despite a strong individual performance from Bulldogs goaltender
Ryan Rainey.
Calvin opened the scoring late in the first period founding the net at 15:34. Adrian generated a handful of chances of its own early on, but the Knights held a decisive shot advantage, outshooting the Bulldogs 18–8 in the opening frame. The second period was scoreless but eventful, featuring multiple penalties and the game's only penalty shot. At 6:57, Calvin was awarded a chance on a breakaway, but Rainey stayed composed and turned aside the attempt to keep the deficit at one. Calvin continued to apply pressure, posting a 14–13 shots-on-goal edge. The Knights finally broke the game open in the third as they doubled the lead at 9:06. With the Bulldogs pushing to respond, Calvin added another goal at 17:38, which effectively sealed the game as Adrian struggled to generate sustained offensive zone time late. Despite the loss, Rainey was one of the standout players of the night. He faced 55 shots and stopped 52 of them, keeping the Bulldogs within reach far longer than the final score might suggest.
That will conclude the MD3 Bulldogs first semester schedule as they head into Christmas break with a 10-6-1 overall record and 2-1-1 conference record. They will be back in action January 23rd and 25th against Cleveland State University.
