LIVONIA, Mich. -- The Adrian College Women's ACHA Division 1 hockey team grabbed wins over Michigan and Penn State this weekend at the CCWHA Playoff Tournament, clinching themselves a spot in the Championship game on Sunday with a shot to clinch the program's seventh consecutive CCWHA playoff title.
The Bulldogs opened the tournament with a quarterfinal win over the University of Michigan on Friday afternoon.
Keira Eagleson and
Genessie Williams scored the first two tallies for Adrian, setting up for a tight finish as the Bulldogs led by one goal late in the contest. After Michigan's attempt to tie it failed,
Allison Shaw buried one into the yawning cage in the dying seconds to seal the 3-1 victory and move the Bulldogs onto the next round. Goaltender,
Amanda Storey, stopped 35 of 36 to lead her team to the quarterfinal win.
On Saturday, Adrian met with Penn State in the semifinals, deciding who would move on to Sunday's title match. It was all Bulldogs in this one as Adrian's
Tess McKerrow,
Makenzie Villiard, and Williams found the back of the net and
Rieley Jessie-Gerelli picked up the shutout in goal to move the Bulldogs into the championship game.
The WD1 Bulldogs will face off against the University of Michigan-Dearborn Wolverines in tomorrow's CCWHA championship contest, with an auto-bid to the ACHA National Championship Tournament on the line. The puck will drop at 3:30 PM at the Eddie Edgar Ice Arena in Livonia.
