ST. LOUIS, Mo. -- The No. 3 Adrian College Women's ACHA Division 1 hockey team opened action at the 2025 ACHA National Championship Tournament on Monday afternoon at the Centene Community Ice Center in St. Louis with a 4-1 victory over No. 10 Arizona State University.
The Bulldogs and Sundevils met for the second time in the last month. The Sundevils were visitors at the Arrington Ice Arena back on February 12, where the Bulldogs came out victorious in that one, 4-2. The two teams also met in the first game of last year's national tournament, a game that also saw the Bulldogs come out on top, that time by a 5-0 score.
The Bulldogs were fortunate to tally first on Monday with just under five minutes remaining in the opening frame, on a goal from
Hailey Wiltshire. ASU answered back shortly after to even the contest up after one period, but Adrian carried the load the rest of the way to seal the deal.
Gianna Miranda scored Adrian's lone goal in the second period before
Taylor Robinson and Wiltshire converted in the final period of regulation. The Bulldogs were backed by 47 saves from goaltender
Rieley Jessie-Gerelli, who earned the game one win in goal.
Shots in the contest ended in the Bulldogs' favor, as Adrian out-shot Arizona State, 53-47, in an exciting tournament opening match-up.
The defending national champion WD1 Bulldogs will return to the ice tomorrow for their final pool play game at 1:30PM CST/2:30 PM EST against No. 6 McKendree University at the Maryville University Hockey Center in Chesterfield, Missouri. Should Adrian defeat McKendree, they will advance to Thursday's semifinals.
