CHESTERFIELD, Mo. -- The No. 3 Adrian College Women's ACHA Division 1 hockey team held on for a 3-2 victory over No. 6 McKendree University on Tuesday at the Maryville University Hockey Center in Chesterfield, Missouri, clinching first-place in their pool to advance to Thursday's ACHA National Tournament semifinals.
Adrian grabbed their second win in as many days, defeating ASU and McKendree to grab the pool play victory and advance to the semifinals.
Neleh Wood scored within the first ten seconds of Tuesday's contest off a pass from
Tess McKerrow to give the Bulldogs an early lead over the Bearcats. Just five minutes later,
Chloe Gregory squeezed one past the MU goaltender, giving Adrian a two-goal cushion. Shortly after that, the Bearcats answered back to make it 2-1 after one period of play.
As play continued in the middle frame, it was the Bulldogs who found the back of the net next, as
Makenzie Villiard potted her first of the tournament to make it 3-1. McKendree would answer back again near the end of the period, bringing the game to a 3-2 score with twenty minutes to play.
Rieley Jessie-Gerelli stood tall in goal for the second straight game, as she and her Bulldog teammates held on to the last second and kept things scoreless for McKendree in period three to advance to the semifinal round. Jessie-Gerelli ended her day with a 30-save performance.
The WD1 Bulldogs will now await the remaining winners of pool play action to determine the scheduling of the national semifinals, taking place on Thursday, March 20 at the Centene Community Ice Center in Maryland Heights.
