ST. LOUIS, Mo. -- The Adrian College Men's ACHA Division 1 hockey team fell short of a national championship victory on Tuesday night, dropping the final contest of the season to No. 2 UNLV, bringing their impressive post-season tournament performance to an end.
The Bulldogs bulldozed their way through No. 11 Calvin University, No. 3 Ohio University, and No. 1 Minot State University on route to the national championship game, making a statement as the No. 6 seed in the tournament. Unfortunately, luck ran out in the end as Adrian's run at back-to-back titles came short with a 7-3 loss to the Rebels from Nevada.
Matthew DiCesare,
Hunter Allen, and
Sebastian Smith provided the scoring for Adrian in Tuesday's effort, while
Noah Decottignies made 27 saves in a game that saw the Bulldogs out-shoot the Rebels, 39-34.
Tuesday's contest was a rematch of the 2024 national title game between Adrian and UNLV and marked the Bulldogs' 3rd straight appearance in the championship game; not to mention their 5th straight birth in the Final Four. The 2025 tournament also counted as Adrian's 15th straight appearance at the ACHA National Championships. Speaking to the strength and excellence of the program, the Bulldogs have accomplished 13 regular season titles, 9 playoff crowns, 7 Final Four births, and 3 national championships over those years.
As the season comes to an end, the MD1 Bulldogs look back on a remarkable season that saw them finish 32-4-2 overall, undefeated in conference play, and as GL6 Hockey Conference Regular Season and Playoff Champions. The Adrian College Men's ACHA Division 1 hockey team will return to the ice in September.
