Softball Struggles in Double-Header Against Trine University, Falling in Both Contests

ANGOLA, Ind. - The Adrian College softball team headed to Angola, Michigan for a make-up game against MIAA conference opponent, Trine University for a double-header on Sunday afternoon. The Bulldogs would fall short in both contests 9-1 and 8-0.

HOW IT HAPPENED GAME 1:

The Bulldogs faced a tough outing in game one of their doubleheader, falling short offensively with just one hit and one run in the contest. Despite the struggle at the plate, Taylor Gerhardt provided a spark with the team's lone hit, a triple in the fourth inning.

Gerhardt would come around to score on a throwing error by the catcher as Meghan Lupu reached on a fielder's choice, giving Adrian its only run of the game.

On the mound, Macee Schang got the start and was charged with the loss. The right-hander worked through two innings, allowing four hits and five earned runs while striking out four in a gutsy performance.

HOW IT HAPPENED GAME 2:

The offensive struggles continued for Adrian in the second game of the doubleheader, as the Bulldogs were limited to just one hit in an 8-0 loss to Trine.

The lone bright spot at the plate came from Peyton Russell, who singled to center in the bottom of the second inning. However, that would be all the offense Adrian could generate as Trine's pitching held firm throughout the game.

Abbi Patton took the loss in the circle, tossing two innings while allowing seven hits and five runs. She struck out two in the effort before handing the ball over to the bullpen.

Adrian is back in action on Wednesday, April 16 as they will host Hope College for an MIAA double-header. First pitch is set for 3:00 PM.
