ADRIAN, Mich. – The Adrian College baseball team faced elimination on Thursday afternoon after dropping game one of the MIAA Tournament the day before. The No. 1 seeded Bulldogs faced No. 2 Calvin to start the day and kept their hopes alive with a 5-1 victory. Adrian went on to shutout Alma, 3-0, in the afternoon game to return to the MIAA Tournament Championship.
HOW IT HAPPENED – GAME 1 – ADRIAN 5, CALVIN 1
- Calvin took a 1-0 lead in the second inning on an RBI single.
- It took until the sixth inning to get on the board when Easton Rogers hit a grand slam to left field to lead 4-1. Later in the inning, Jaxon McGuigan smacked an RBI double to extend the lead to 5-1.
- The Bulldogs total seven hits in the game from seven different batters.
- Landon Kozlowski got the start on the mound tossing 4.2 innings allowing one run on nine hits. Griffin Firestine earned the win in relief after throwing 3.2 scoreless innings. Ryan Davis earned a save on the day marking the 14th of his career to set a new Adrian College career save record.
HOW IT HAPPENED – GAME 2 – ADRIAN 3, ALMA 0
- Adrian jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the top of the second inning after an RBI groundout by Daniel Shipman.
- It took until the seventh inning for Adrian to strike again when Nic Bruder singled in a run on a bunt single followed by a single to left field by Ryan Davis to lead 3-0.
- Adrian finished the game with eight hits on the afternoon while holding Alma to two hits. Linken Hayward and Jake Burns led the Bulldogs with two hits apiece.
- Ambrose Horwath finished the day with 5.2 innings pitched in the win allowing no runs on two hits. Sean Parker earned the save with 3.1 innings pitched in relief.
UP NEXT
The Bulldogs return to the MIAA Tournament Championship game tomorrow where they will face No. 4 seeded Kalamazoo College. Adrian will need to win two games in order to claim the MIAA Tournament Championship. First pitch is scheduled for 12:00 PM.
