Softball Falls in MIAA Championship Final, Capping Strong Season at 28-14

ANGOLA, Ind. - The Adrian College softball team played in the MIAA Championship games on Friday afternoon in Angola, Indiana. The Bulldogs were seeking thier first MIAA Conference Championships since 1993. Adrian fell in the first game 8-1 and headed to a winner take all game two where the Bulldogs fell in six inning 10-2. 

HOW IT HAPPENED GAME 1: 

Trine took an early lead in the second inning with a single run and extended their advantage with a five-run outburst in the third, putting Adrian in a 6-0 hole after three innings of play. Despite getting runners aboard, the Bulldogs couldn't break through offensively in the early going.

Trine would tack on one run each in the fourth and fifth innings, pushing the lead to 8-0. Adrian responded in the bottom of the fifth, as Hanna Walker delivered a clutch double to drive in Makenzi Johnson for the Bulldogs' lone run of the game.

Adrian's offense showed moments of life, with Taylor Gerhart, Peyton Russell, and Maggie Leveille each collecting a hit, going 1-for-3 on the day. Walker made the most of her plate appearance, going 1-for-1 with the team's only RBI.

Macee Schang got the start in the circle, pitching two innings while allowing five hits and five runs, and striking out one. Avery Clark came on in relief and tossed five innings, giving up three earned runs on nine hits while fanning three.

With the series now tied, Adrian will gear up for a winner-take-all matchup with the MIAA Championship on the line.

HOW IT HAPPENED GAME 2:

Adrian College gave a solid effort in the MIAA Conference Championship finale but came up short against a powerful Trine offense, falling 10-2 in game two.

Trine struck first with a two-run home run in the second inning, but the Bulldogs quickly responded in the third. Abbie Hoff drove in Adrian's first run with a sacrifice fly, followed by Hailey DeChalk who added a second sac fly to tie the game at 2-2.

In the bottom half of the third, Trine regained momentum with a go-ahead run and added a three-run home run to push the lead to 6-2. The Thunder continued to apply pressure, plating additional runs in the fourth, fifth, and sixth innings to seal the victory and the MIAA title.

Abbi Patton took the start in the circle for Adrian and was tagged with the loss after two innings of work, surrendering seven hits and six runs while striking out two. At the plate, Meghan Lupu led the Bulldogs' offense with a 2-for-3 day. Taylor Gerhardt added a hit, while Hoff and DeChalk each tallied an RBI.

 Adrian celebrated two All-MIAA selections: Abbie Hoff and Taylor Gerhardt, both recognized for their outstanding contributions throughout the year.

The NCAA Division III Softball Selection Show will begin Monday at 11:00 AM on NCAA.com where Adrian will hope for an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament.
