WD1 Tested this Weekend in St. Louis to Open Up the Season

MARYLAND HEIGHTS, Mo. - The Adrian College Women's ACHA Divison 1 hockey team went 1-2 on their season opener weekend as they headed down to Maryland Heights, Missouri. The Bulldogs faced Lindenwood Friday night, flying by easily with an 8-0 win. Saturday night the Bulldogs had a rematch of the ACHA Division 1 semi-finals from last season, facing Maryville, the national championship runners-up. The game resulted in 1-0, in favor of the Saints and 4-1 Sunday afternoon, to complete the Saints sweep.

The Bulldogs were led by senior forwards Tyla Turnbull and Taylor Robinson as they both tallied four points on the weekend. Both Turnbull and Robinson, had one goal and three assists in Friday nights game against Lindenwood.

Friday night against Lindenwood, the goal torch was passed around quite a bit, as the Bulldogs had eight different scorers for their eight goals. Senior forward Hailey Wiltshire opened up the scoring for Adrian within the opening two minutes of the game. While rookie trio, Sydney Haggart, Addison Scoville, and Sierra Raatz added their first goals as Bulldogs with a pear each. Junior forward Chloe Gregory, and senior forwards Hailey Wilshire, Taylor Robinson, Mya Reyes, and Turnbull all added tallies of their own on the night. Sophomore goaltender Olivia Towpich earned herself the win and shutout on the night recording 23 saved shots from the lions.

Saturday night, the Bulldogs out shot the Saints 30-29 but just couldn't find the back of the net. The graduate student goaltender, Rieley Jessie-Gerelli faced all 29 shots from the Saints and let one squeak by her in the first period. Adrian's defensive effort held off the Saints with their lone goal in the first period, resulting in a 1-0 final score.

Sunday afternoon, Maryville out shot the Bulldogs 38-13, resulting in their four goals on the game. Jessie-Gerelli got the start again, saving 34 out of the 38 Saints shots. Wiltshire was able to cut down the Saints lead to one as she opened up the Bulldogs scoring at the start of the third period with a shorthanded goal. Maryville did not let off the gas pedal as they were able to put two more goals in the back of the net before the final buzzer, ending in a 4-1 final score.

Adrian now sits at a 1-2 overall record to start off the season. The WD1 Bulldogs will shake this weekend off and prepare for their conference opener in the CCWHA as they head up to Eastern Michigan on Friday, October 3rd at 8:35 pm puck drop and host them on Saturday, October 4th in the Bulldogs home opener for a 4:00 pm puck drop.
