ADRIAN, Mich. – The Adrian College ACHA Men's Division I hockey team faced Hope College on Thursday and Friday in a GL6 conference matchup. The Bulldogs and Flying Dutchmen split the series, as Adrian earned a 5-2 victory at home on Thursday before Hope responded with a 6-2 win on Friday. The loss on Friday marked Adrian's first conference defeat of the season.
On Thursday night, Hope took a 1-0 lead after the first period and extended its advantage to 3-0 early in the second. Cale Strasky got the Bulldogs on the board late in the period, cutting the deficit to 3-1 heading into the third.
Adrian dominated the final frame as Blake Wideman and Keegan Decaluwe scored back-to-back goals just 23 seconds apart to tie the game. Dylan Gajewski then gave the Bulldogs their first lead, and Ethan McLaughlin sealed the comeback with an empty-net goal to secure the 5-2 victory.
Peyton Trzaska started in net for Adrian and recorded 23 saves in the win.
The Bulldogs traveled to Holland for game two of the series on Friday night. Wideman opened the scoring for Adrian, but Hope answered to knot the game at 1-1 heading into the second period. The Flying Dutchmen scored twice in the second and added an early third-period goal to build a 4-1 lead.
Matteo Turrin found the back of the net for Adrian in the third, but Hope added an empty-net goal and a late power-play tally to close out a 6-2 victory and earn the series split.
Dylan Eliason started in goal for Adrian and finished the night with 28 saves.
The Bulldogs return to action at home on Thursday, January 22, when they host Calvin University at 7:30 p.m.
