ADRIAN, Mich. – The NCSA D1 team battled against Central Michigan in a tripleheader on Sunday. The Bulldogs took the first game before dropping the next two.
Game 1
Adrian's offense ambushed the Central Michigan pitcher in the top of the first, giving the Bulldogs a comfortable four-run lead. Anica Allstead got things started with a leadoff triple. She'd come around two batters later on Michelle Huffman's two-run RBI double. Central Michigan got a run back in the bottom of the first, and then added two more in the bottom of the second. Hayden Cutler stole home in the top of the third, extending Adrian's lead to 5-3. The Chippewas battled back in the third inning, tying the game at five runs. Central Michigan added another run in the fourth, giving them their first lead of the game. Adrian answered right back, tying the game on a double courtesy of Kaitlyn Fry. The Bulldogs entered the seventh inning trailing by a run. Down to their final out, Adrian strung together three straight hits, highlighted by another Fry RBI double, to take an 8-7 lead. Fry then went out and retired the side to secure the victory.
Game 2
Another back-and-forth game started with the Chippewas striking first in the second inning. Adrian answered right back with a two-spot of their own via an RBI double by Hayden Cutler. In the bottom of the fifth, with the game tied at three, Central Michigan scraped across two more runs to make it 5-3. Adrian got one run back in the sixth inning, but was unable to score another. Central Michigan took game two 5-4.
Game 3
Once again, it was Central Michigan getting on the scoreboard first, earning a 2-0 lead after the second inning. A hit-by-pitch with the bases loaded helped the Bulldogs get on the board, and a two-run RBI double by Greer Simpson gave Adrian the lead. Central Michigan scored two runs in the third to retake the lead, 4-3. As they had all day, Adrian answered right back. A Mattea Bingaman triple plated the tying run, and a passed ball gave Adrian a 5-4 lead. Central Michigan tied things up in the fourth inning and took a two-run lead on a Bulldog error in the fifth inning. A walk and four Adrian hits helped give the Bulldogs a 9-7 lead going into the bottom half of the sixth inning. The Chippewas would not go away that easily, though, as they answered with a four-run inning of their own to secure an 11-9 win.
