HUDSONVILLE, Mich. – The Adrian College ACHA Men's Division I hockey team secured another GL6 Regular Season Conference Championship on Friday night. The Bulldogs left no doubt, earning all six points with a pair of regulation victories—an 8-2 home win on Thursday night followed by a 2-1 road victory on Friday.
Adrian wasted no time getting on the scoreboard in Thursday's contest, as Jonah Ziskinder, Sebastian Smith, and Keegan DeCaluwe each found the back of the net to give the Bulldogs a 3-0 lead after one period. Luke Marley opened the scoring in the second period, but Grand Valley responded to cut the deficit to 4-1. Cyrus Toth made it 5-1 heading into the third before Eli Reimer extended the lead to 6-1 five minutes into the final frame. After another Grand Valley tally, Carter McLeod and Reimer scored late to seal the 8-2 victory.
Dylan Gajewski led the Bulldogs offensively with three assists, while Smith and Justin Jamer each recorded two. Peyton Trzaska earned the win in goal, stopping 24 shots.
Friday night's matchup was a tightly contested defensive battle. After a scoreless first period, Smith gave Adrian a 1-0 lead just 45 seconds into the second period. Grand Valley answered later in the frame to knot the game at 1-1. Midway through the third period, DeCaluwe netted a power-play goal that proved to be the game-winner. The Bulldog defense shut the door the rest of the way to secure the 2-1 win.
DeCaluwe, Gajewski, and Blake Wideman each recorded an assist in the victory. Trzaska picked up his second win of the weekend, turning aside 19 shots.
With the sweep, Adrian clinched the No. 1 seed in the GL6 Playoffs, which will be hosted by Davenport University. The Bulldogs earn a first-round bye and will compete in the semifinal round on Friday, February 20, at 8:00 p.m.
