LYNCHBURG, Va. -- The No. 7 Adrian College women's hockey team hit the road to top-ranked Liberty University in a pair of tightly contested 2-0 matchups over the weekend.
After a scoreless opening frame Friday evening, Liberty netted the game-winner at the 4:44 mark of the third period on a power-play goal. The Flames extended their lead later in the frame when they found the back of the net at 7:55 to make it 2-0. Adrian goaltender graduate student Rieley Jessie-Gerelli was strong between the pipes, stopping 39 of 41 shots faced in the loss. Liberty held a 41-21 advantage in shots on goal.
Liberty struck first late in the opening period Saturday afternoon as they scored at 16:52 to give the Flames a 1-0 advantage heading into the intermission. The second period remained scoreless, with Adrian continuing to defend well and Jessie-Gerelli turning aside quality chances to keep the Bulldogs within one. Liberty sealed the contest with an empty-net goal at 19:35 of the third period, resulting in the 2-0 final. Jessie-Gerelli once again delivered a standout performance, finishing with 50 saves on 51 shots. Liberty outshot Adrian 52-20 in the second game.
The WD1 Bulldogs conclude their regular season games and finish their season with an 18-12-2 overall record as they head into CCWHA Playoffs Friday-Sunday. Stay turned for more playoff schedule and information within the week.
