AKRON, Ohio -- The Adrian College MD3 hockey team closed out their regular season earning a 5–3 victory over University of Akron on Saturday, using a strong first period and relentless offensive pressure to secure the win.
Adrian set the tone early, jumping out to a 2–0 lead in the opening period. Solyom Andras opened the scoring just 1:02 into the contest, and Dmitrii Sergeev added another at the 18:00 mark to give the Bulldogs control after one.
Akron responded in the second period with a pair of shorthanded goals, briefly tying the game at 2–2. Adrian answered midway through the frame when Nicholas Therrien found the back of the net off a feed from Brett Whitten, restoring the Bulldogs lead heading into the third.
In the final period, the teams traded goals. Akron struck again on the power play early in the third to even the score at 3–3. Adrian responded with back-to-back goals to seal the game. Noah Dearnell tallied the eventual game-winner, and Luke Miller added an insurance marker late to secure the 5–3 final.
Adrian controlled play throughout the night, outshooting Akron 54–18. Goaltender Peyton Lenger was steady between the pipes, stopping 15 of 18 shots to earn the win.
