ADRIAN, Mich. -- The Adrian College MD3 hockey team headed out to No. 3 Oakland University Friday evening falling 5-2 and hosted them Sunday afternoon falling 6-1.

Oakland opened the scoring just 30 seconds into the contest however, Adrian answered quickly as Nicholas Therrien scored unassisted at the 1:59 mark to even the game at 1–1. The Grizzlies regained the lead late in the first period when they converted on the power play at 18:00, sending Oakland into the first intermission ahead 2–1. The Grizzles pulled away in the second period, scoring three times to give Oakland a 5–1 advantage heading into the final frame. Adrian found the scoreboard again late in the third period when Gavin Scally scored at 17:42, assisted by Dmitrii Sergeev and Brett Whitten, to account for the 5–2 final. Ryan Rainey made 36 saves on 41 shots in net for the Bulldogs. Oakland held a 41–29 advantage in shots on goal.
Oakland struck first midway through the opening period Sunday afternoon and carried a 1–0 lead into the first intermission despite limited offensive chances from Adrian. The Grizzlies controlled play early, holding a 16–1 edge in shots on goal in the opening frame. The second period proved decisive as Oakland scored five times, including two power-play goals, to extend its lead to 6–0. Adrian found more offensive rhythm in the middle frame, generating six shots, but was unable to slow Oakland's surge. Adrian broke through late in the third period when Therrien scored at the 13:30 mark, assisted by Ty Rollenhagen and Solyom Andras, to prevent the shutout. The Bulldogs finished the game with nine shots on goal. In net, Rainey made 21 saves over 34:58 before Peyton Lenger took over midway through the second period and stopped eight of nine shots in relief.
The MD3 Bulldogs finish conference play with a 2-5-1 record, while holding a 10-10-1 overall record as they head into their final regular season game Saturday on the road to Akron. Puck drop set for 4:15 PM.Â
