ANN ARBOR, Mich. – The Adrian College NCBA Division I baseball team opened its spring season with a three-game series against the University of Michigan. The Bulldogs claimed the opener, 13-11, before dropping the final two games of the series, 5-1 and 8-4.
Adrian jumped out to a 6-0 lead in game one, scoring a run in both the first and second innings before adding four runs in the third. Michigan got on the board with a run in the bottom of the third, but Adrian answered with two runs in the fourth.
Michigan responded with a four-run inning to cut the deficit to 8-5, and after another Wolverine run, the Bulldogs extended their lead with two runs in the sixth and two more in the seventh to make it 12-6. Michigan rallied late, but Adrian held on to secure the series-opening victory. Damon Harriss led the Bulldogs with three hits and three RBIs, while Carson Meister also drove in three runs.
Michigan took control early in game two, jumping out to a 2-0 lead. Adrian cut the deficit in half in the fifth inning with an RBI single from Brock Hudik, but Michigan answered with three runs in the bottom of the inning to even the series. Adrian totaled just four hits in the game, with Hudik accounting for three of them. Connor Reneau pitched four innings, allowing three earned runs on four hits.
Late runs from Michigan helped the Wolverines claim the series with an 8-4 win in game three. Adrian trailed 2-1 entering the fifth inning before Michigan plated three runs in the bottom of the frame and added three more in the sixth. The Bulldogs scored once in the sixth and twice in the seventh but were unable to complete the comeback. Logan Hoyt-Tracy recorded two hits for Adrian, while Ayden Pate took the loss on the mound after throwing 4.1 innings and allowing four earned runs on five hits.
Adrian returns to action at home on March 21-22 when the Bulldogs host Michigan State University at Nicolay Field.
