CLERMONT, Fla. – The Adrian College NCAA softball team bounced back on Monday by sweeping its doubleheader to move to 2-2 on the season. With the help of two complete games by their starting pitchers, the Bulldogs defeated Wentworth, 12-0, before topping Wartburg, 9-3.
HOW IT HAPPENED GAME 1
- The Bulldogs came out scoring by taking a 3-0 lead in the first inning on an RBI single from Karsyn Malinich and a 2-run homer from Megan Kowalyk.
- In the second inning, Ava Wolfe singled in a run followed by another RBI single from Malinich to lead 5-0.
- In the fourth inning, Malinich recorded another RBI on a triple before Kowalyk hit a sacrifice fly to jump up 7-0.
- Emmalee Shankel and Malinich hit RBI doubles in the fifth inning while Taylor Gerhardt drove in a run on a single, and Kowalyk drove in two runs on a single to pull ahead 12-0 and win in five innings.
- Malinich finished the game 4-for-4 with four RBIS while Gerhardt and Wolfe each picked up two hits.
- Lillian Utrup earned the win in her first collegiate start by tossing a five-inning shutout allowing no runs on two hits with a pair of walks.
HOW IT HAPPENED GAME 2
- Wartburg took a 2-0 lead with a home run in the top of the first, but the Bulldogs cut the lead to one in the bottom of the inning by scoring a runner from third.
- In the second inning, Adrian scored five runs on an RBI bunt single from Wolfe, a sacrifice fly from Malinich, an RBI single from Kowalyk, and a 2-RBI single from Peyton Russell.
- Wartburg made it 7-3 in the third inning, but Adrian scored on a Wartburg error in the fourth and a 2-RBI single from Alaina Craig in the sixth to win 9-3.
- Russell led the team at the plate with three hits while Craig totaled two.
- Avery Clark picked up her first win of the season by tossing a 7-inning complete game allowing three runs on six hits with four strikeouts.

The Bulldogs are back in action tomorrow in Florida when they face Alvernia University at 10:00 AM followed by a game at 2:30 PM versus Lebanon Valley College.
