DEMOREST, Ga. – The Adrian College NCAA baseball team continued its southern trip on Wednesday night as they faced Piedmont University on the road. The No. 9 ranked Bulldogs suffered their first loss of the season in a battle with the Lions, 11-9. Adrian moves to 5-1 on the season.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Bulldogs took at 3-0 lead in the top of the second inning sparked by a Gabe Jones RBI double. Casey Finn and Jack Boike knocked in runs on sacrifice flies in the inning.
- In the bottom the second inning, Piedmont responded with five runs on a 2-RBI single and a three-run homer.
- Piedmont added a run in the third and another in the fourth to lead 7-3.
- Adrian made it 7-4 in the fifth inning on a bases loaded walk, but the Bulldogs left the bases loaded in the inning which limited the damage for Piedmont.
- In the sixth, Piedmont added two more runs on an RBI single and RBI double to lead 9-4.
- Jake Burns gave the Bulldogs some life in the top of the seventh by launching a two-run homer to make it 9-6, but Piedmont responded in the inning to lead 11-6.
- The Bulldogs sparked a comeback in the eight as Rolando Jimenez had an RBI groundout followed by an RBI single from Boike who later came around to score on an error to make it 11-9.
- Adrian went down fighting putting two base runners on in the ninth, but Piedmont got out of the inning to win the game.
- Jones finished the day 3-for-5 at the plate with one RBI and a pair of runs scored to lead Adrian offensively.
- Cooper Tracy suffered the loss on the mound after tossing 1.2 innings allowing five runs on five hits with a pair of strikeouts.
