GREENSBORO, N.C. – The Adrian College baseball team faced Maryville College on Saturday night in a tournament game hosted by Greensboro. The Bulldogs jumped out to an early lead, but a late comeback from Maryville handed Adrian its third loss of the season, 12-11.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Adrian took a 1-0 lead in the second inning on a sacrifice fly from Aiden Melvin before Maryville tied the game in the fourth inning.
- In the bottom of the fourth, Melvin drove in another run, followed by a sacrifice fly from Christian Oliver to give the Bulldogs a 3-1 advantage.
- Maryville responded with a run on a double in the fifth inning before a three-run homer gave the Scots a 5-3 lead.
- Adrian bounced back by taking advantage of a Maryville error. Gabe Jones doubled in a run, and Oliver drove in two with a single to give the Bulldogs an 8-5 lead.
- The Bulldogs extended their lead in the sixth with an RBI double from Jones and another RBI double from Melvin. Nic Bruder added an RBI double in the seventh to push the lead to 11-9.
- Maryville mounted its comeback in the eighth inning, scoring seven runs to take a 12-11 lead and secure the win.
- Jones and Bruder led the Bulldogs with three hits each, while Melvin and Rolando Jimenez added two hits apiece.
- Edward Bieniasz started on the mound for Adrian, tossing five innings and allowing five runs on five hits while recording three strikeouts.

Adrian will wrap up its trip south tomorrow afternoon when the Bulldogs face Montclair State University at 11:30 a.m. in Greensboro.
