UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. -- The Adrian College NCSA softball team put together a dominant day at the plate, sweeping Saginaw Valley State Club in a doubleheader on Friday night, 11-6 and 10-0 (5 innings). With the sweep, the Bulldogs improve to a 8-15 overall record.
Game One: Adrian 11, SVSU 6
Adrian opened the day with an 11-6 victory, using timely hitting and a late offensive surge to pull away. The Bulldogs struck first in the opening inning, highlighted by a two-run double from Hayden Cutler. After Saginaw Valley answered with a five-run third inning to take the lead, Adrian quickly responded. Trailing 6-5 in the fifth, Anica Allstead delivered the biggest swing of the game, launching a three-run home run to put Adrian back in front, 9-6. The Bulldogs added two more insurance runs over the next inning to seal the win. Allstead finished with three RBIs and three runs scored, while Michelle Huffman led the offense with three hits and two RBIs. Greer Simpson added two hits and scored three times, and Cutler chipped in two RBIs. In the circle, Kaitlyn Fry earned the win in relief, tossing 2.1 shutout innings while striking out six. Haley Holmes added a scoreless inning to close it out.
Game Two: Adrian 10, SVSU 0 (5 innings)
The Bulldogs carried that momentum into game two, exploding early and cruising to a five-inning run-rule victory. Adrian plated four runs in the first inning and never looked back. Hayden Cutler and Anna Ignatoski each delivered RBI doubles in the frame, while the Bulldogs continued to apply pressure with consistent contact and patience at the plate. The offense stayed hot in the third inning, highlighted by back-to-back home runs from Courtney Robertson and Gianna Evans to extend the lead. Adrian added two more runs in the fifth to secure the 10-0 win. Sara Kozel led the way with a perfect 4-for-4 performance, while Huffman added two hits and reached base three times. Evans recorded two hits, including a home run, and Robertson also homered and drove in a run. In the circle, Adrian was dominant. Haley Holmes and Anjelica Bolivar combined to allow just two hits while keeping SVSU off the scoreboard in the shutout effort.
