NCBA D3 Baseball Wins District IV East Conference with Sweep over Saginaw Valley

ADRIAN, Mich. – The Adrian College NCBA Division III baseball team hosted Saginaw Valley State University over the weekend for a doubleheader and completed a two-game sweep with back-to-back shutouts, 7-0 and 3-0. With the victories, the Bulldogs clinched the District IV East conference championship.

Adrian and the Cardinals were locked in a scoreless battle until the sixth inning of game one. In the frame, Blake Wideman scored on a passed ball before Tate Wyse delivered a two-run single. The Bulldogs added another run on a Saginaw error and two more on a sacrifice fly from Adam Lashaway to take a 6-0 lead. Adrian tacked on one more run in the seventh to secure the 7-0 win. Connor Davies led the offense with two hits, while Tyler Clement tossed a one-hit shutout with 10 strikeouts.

The Bulldogs struck quickly in game two, taking a 2-0 lead in the first inning on a passed ball and an RBI groundout by Sam Sipe. The score remained unchanged until the seventh, when Adrian added an insurance run on an RBI single from Davies to claim the 3-0 victory. Davies again paced the Bulldogs with two hits. Nate Linder earned the win after six scoreless innings, allowing three hits while striking out seven. Tate Wyse recorded the save with a scoreless inning in relief.

The Bulldogs return to action on Wednesday, April 22, at 4:30 p.m. when they travel to Washtenaw Community College for a single game. With the conference championship, Adrian will travel to Wisconsin on May 2-4 to compete in the Regional Tournament. More information on regionals will be announced soon.
