ADRIAN, Mich. – The Adrian College NCBA D1 baseball team adjusted to the weekend weather and hosted University of Notre Dame on Sunday for a doubleheader. The Bulldogs split the two-game set, taking the opener 11-6 before falling 7-3 in game two.
Game 1: Adrian 11, Notre Dame 6
The Bulldogs fell behind early after allowing four runs in the first inning and another in the third. Adrian responded in the fourth when Luke Marley delivered a two-run double, followed by a run scored on an error to cut the deficit to 5-3.
Carson Meister drove in a run in the sixth to make it 5-4 before Adrian erupted for seven runs in the seventh inning. Isaac Jurmu started the rally with an RBI triple, while Tyler Hall, Ryan Kempter, Brock Hudik, Jesse Leyva, and Jurmu each added RBI singles. Notre Dame scored once in the bottom half, but Adrian closed out the victory.
Meister, Leyva, and Hall each collected three hits to lead the offense, while Marley and Kempter added two hits apiece. Connor Reneau started on the mound, allowing five runs on four hits over three innings. Cameron Wakefield earned the win in relief after tossing two innings and surrendering one run on three hits.
Game 2: Notre Dame 7, Adrian 3
Notre Dame built a 2-0 lead before Adrian answered with three runs in the third inning. Hudik and Jurmu each drove in a run with singles, while Meister brought home another on a fielder's choice.
Notre Dame regained control with one run in the fourth and added four more in the fifth to secure the split.
Hudik paced the Bulldogs with two hits in the nightcap. Michael Hale took the loss after pitching five innings and allowing three earned runs on nine hits.
The Bulldogs will close out the regular season on Sunday, April 26, when they host Indiana University at Nicolay Field. First pitch is scheduled for 5 p.m.
