Baseball Grabs Two Wins in Doubleheader Series Opener Versus Calvin

ADRIAN, Mich. – The Adrian College baseball team opened the MIAA conference series with Calvin University on Friday in a home doubleheader. The No. 25 Bulldogs claimed game one of the day 16-7 before completing the doubleheader sweep after an 11-5 win in game two.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED GAME 1
  • The Bulldogs took a 1-0 lead in the second inning on an RBI single from Jack Boike.
  • In the second inning, the Bulldogs scored nine runs with the help of a Calvin error, an RBI single from Boike, a three-RBI double from Gabe Jones, two bases loaded walks, and a bases loaded hit by pitch.
  • In the fourth inning, Adrian extended the lead to 14-0 with the help of a sacrifice fly from Rolando Jimenez, an RBI single from Brendan Willadsen, and an RBI single by Cam Oliver.
  • Calvin didn't go away and scored seven runs in the seventh with all seven runs coming unearned.
  • Braxton Bermes singled through the left side in the bottom of the eighth to give the Bulldogs a 16-7 lead to win the game.
  • Ambrose Horwath earned his sixth win of the season on the mound throwing 6.2 innings allowing no earned runs on seven hits with four strikeouts. Parker Faris pitched a pair of scoreless innings in relief where he struck out three.
  • Boike led the team with three hits on the day while Casy Finn finished with two.
HOW IT HAPPENED GAME 2
  • Calvin jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the top of the first.
  • Adrian responded with seven runs in the bottom of the inning on a bases loaded fielder's choice, three bases loaded walks, a run scoring on a double play, and an RBI single from Cam Oliver.
  • Calvin added four runs in the third inning on three RBI singles and a groundout.
  • Jake Burns sparked the offense again in the fourth on a 2-RBI double before Brendan Willadsen and Oliver each had RBI doubles in the fifth to lead 11-5.
  • Oliver led the Bulldogs at the plate in game with a pair of hits and two RBIs. Jake Burns added three RBIs in the game.
  • Corbin Kozlowski earned the win after tossing 3.1 innings in relief allowing no runs on two hits with four strikeouts. Cooper Tracy pitched 2.2 innings in relief allowing no runs on one hit with five strikeouts.
UP NEXT
The Bulldogs improve to 16-6 on the season and sit 4-2 in the MIAA standings. Adrian will return to action on the road on Saturday, April 4 in the series finale against at a newly scheduled time of 4:00 PM hosted by Davenport University.
