BATTLE CREEK, Mich. – The NCBA D1 team competed in the Battle Creek Blast this past weekend.
Game 1
Adrian opened up the Battle Creek Blast with Western Michigan.
The teams exchanged runs in the first, and after the second inning the Broncos led 2-1. In the top half of the third, WMU extended their lead with two RBI singles, making it 4-1. The Bulldogs answered back as Damon Harriss had a SAC fly and Kainen Smith had a single that made it a one-run game. The difference came in the top of the sixth when the Broncos tacked on two insurance runs.
The Broncos beat the Bulldogs 7-3 in Adrian's first game of the weekend.
Game 2
The bats were out on full display as they took on Oakland University.
Adrian scored eight unanswered runs through the first three frames. Both teams exchanged runs for the next couple of innings, and after five it was 9-4 Bulldogs. The nail in the coffin came in the seventh inning when Adrian plated three runs, making it 12-5. Seven different Bulldogs recorded an RBI in the win, with Ryan McDonald recording two.
Adrian bested the Golden Grizzlies 12-5.
Game 3
The Bulldog offense cooled off against Illinois in their third and final game of the weekend.
In the bottom of the first, Adrian pushed across the game's first run. The Fighting Illini responded with a five-run second inning. The Bulldogs played from behind the rest of the way. Adrian was able to cut into the deficit a few times, and trailed 6-3 after a Cody Priest RBI double in the fifth. Illinois pulled away with RBI singles in the sixth and seventh, giving them an 11-3 lead. Adrian was able to muster a run in the seventh, but it was too little too late.
Illinois defeated Adrian 11-4 to end the weekend for the Bulldogs.
