Senior guard Ryan Gallus filled the nets on Saturday night in a 78-68 loss to Case Western Reserve with a game-high 25 points in 37 minutes. Gallus was 8-of-15 from the floor and connected on 5-of-10 from the arc while tossing in 4-of-7 from the foul line. Gallus also had three rebounds and three assists before fouling out with 33.7 seconds left in the game.
Junior guard Desmond Young could not find his stroke going 6-of-16 and 0-of-5 from behind the arc in 37 minutes. Young scored 12 points and added three assists in the backcourt. Freshman guard Dwight VanHoesen made 4-of-11 from the field and 2-of-7 from the arc totaling 10 points in 27 minutes. Senior forward Ian Weber had another solid game with eight points on 4-of-7 shooting from the floor and eight boards including four offensive caroms in 25 minutes. Weber was hurt by foul trouble which limited his minutes.
Adrian shot 28-of-68 (.412) from the floor and were 8-of-30 (.267) from behind the arc. Adrian was also a poor 4-of-9 (.444) from the foul line. The Bulldogs grabbed 31 boards including 18 offensive rebounds. Case Western Reserve nabbed 37 rebounds and shot 53.6 percent overall including 57.7 percent in the second half. They were also 6-of-15 (.400) from the arc and 12-of-18 (.667) at the charity stripe.
Adrian led for a good portion of the first half jumping out to an 11-4 lead in the first 5:22 of the game. Case Western Reserve took the lead at 18-17 at the 9:37 mark and a Gallus three-pointer at 9:21 of the first half gave Adrian their last lead of the game at 20-18. Case led 35-29 at halftime and built their to 11 points at 33-22 with 3:23 left in the opening half.
The Bulldogs kept the deficit in single digits for most of the second half and got to within 61-56 at the 6:06 mark of the second half. The guys could not get any closer and Case was paced by five players in double figures in scoring led by 17 points from Brandon Bradford. Bradford also had eight boards and seven assists. Adrian will play in the consolation game at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday against Mount Union.
