ADRIAN, Mich. -
The Adrian College women's basketball scored a season-best 90 points en route to capturing their first MIAA victory of the 2007-08 season over the visiting Tri-State University Thunder on Wednesday evening. Prior to Wednesday's game, the Bulldogs had not broken the 90 point plateau since their 96-44 win over Rochester College on November 18, 2006.
The Bulldogs (2-4, 1-1 MIAA) broke open what was a close game through the first five minutes of playing time by out-scoring the Thunder 30-7 in a 9:01 span during the first half of the game to take a 39-14 lead at the 6:13 mark. After shooting 56.1% from the floor in the first half to Tri-State's 25.8%, the Bulldogs found themselves with a 51-29 lead heading into the locker room.
The blistering Bulldog offense of the first half cooled off a bit in the second half, but not enough to allow a Thunder comeback. The AC offense added to their lead in the second half by outscoring the Thunder by a 15 point margin, lifting them to the 90-53 victory.
Three Bulldogs posted double-digit point efforts on the evening. Megan Bouwens held a share of the night's game-high score with 18 points off the bench while Anita Stamps (14) and Elysia Norris (10) both made strong contributions to the Bulldog offense. On the night, 10 Adrian College players scored at least five points in the win.
The Thunder, now 3-4,0-2 in the MIAA, were led by Rachel Grove's 18 points and Kristen Julian's 13 point effort. Tri-State found more success at the charity stripe on Wednesday evening, going 21-36 from the foul line to Adrian's 10-21 night at the line.
The Bulldogs will take to the road for their next game as they head to MIAA foe Olivet College on Saturday, December 8 for a 3:00 p.m. tip-off.
