The Bulldogs battled down to the wire on Saturday afternoon with Olivet as the Comets' Amy Brackenwagen hit a jumper with two seconds left to give the Comets a 53-51 win at the Merillat Center. The Bulldogs and Comets were tied six times in the second half and 10 times in the game before the game-winning shot by Brackenwagen. Adrian led 44-37 with 7:57 left in the game on a layup by Jennifer Perrin but Olivet responded with a 7-0 run to tie the game at 44-44 at the 4:35 mark on a pair of free throws from Vallen VanZyll. Ashley McClarren hit a big shot in the post to knot things up at 48-48 with 2:48 to go. Brackenwagen converted a huge three-point play on a foul by Perrin with 2:26 to play giving Olivet a 51-48 lead. Perrin came back by drawing a foul on Brackenwagen and hitting a pair at the line with 2:14 on the clock to pull Adrian within one at 51-50. The defense picked up down the stretch as both teams traded empty possessions until Kim Olech was fouled on her second putback attempt with 19 seconds to go. Olech split at the line making the second toss to tie the game at 51-51 and setup the final sequence. Olivet could not find an opening and called timeout with five seconds to draw up their final play.
Brackenwagen scored a team-high 15 points for the Comets. Olivet shot 35.2 percent for the game and held a 40-38 rebounding edge. Adrian shot 32.7 percent including 28 percent in the second half. Olech pulled down 10 boards to go with four blocks and four steals. Perrin scored six points and was the next closest to Stamps on the scoresheet. Both teams were 11-of-18 at the foul line and both connected on four triples. Adrian is now 5-10 overall and 3-4 in the MIAA.
