ADRIAN, Mich. -
The women's basketball team played two very distinctively different halves on Wednesday night at the Merillat Center Gymnasium in a 76-56 loss to Albion College. Adrian left the floor at halftime trailing 40-22 but held their own in the second half being outscored by just two points and shooting 46.7 percent in the final 20 minutes.
Adrian could never grab a lead in this one but did play evenly in the first four minutes to tie the game at 6-6 on a Elysia Norris layup. Albion then went on a 7-0 run over the next 1:40 to put themselves at arms length of the Bulldogs for the rest of the evening. Adrian did cut the lead to 15-13 at the 10:48 mark but the Britons went on a 13-1 run over the next seven minutes to lead by 16 at the 4:11 mark on a Brittany Kemperman three-point shot. Albion ended the half making six straight free throws and got 20 points off their bench in the opening half.
Albion built their largest lead to 25 with 15:24 left on a Tonya Anderson triple at the top of the key but the Bulldogs did not roll over. Adrian got the lead down to 15 at 66-51 with 5:45 left on a Tiffany Willson jumper but could not get any closer down the stretch.
Adrian's bench scored 30 of the team's 56 points on the night. Rita Carter scored her eight points in the second half and played 15 minutes. Megan Bouwens added seven points and five rebounds in 18 minutes. Jennifer Perrin led the team with 14 points and was 5-of-10 shooting with two triples in five tries. She also had four rebounds and five steals in 30 minutes. Albion finished the game going 24-of-32 at the charity stripe and Adrian went 10-of-22 in a game that featured 46 fouls. The Bulldogs are now 5-11 overall and 3-5 in the MIAA.
