The women's basketball team stepped up the defensive intensity in the second half on Saturday night and the outcome was a trip to the PSU Behrend Tournament championship game with a 12-point win over Westminster. The Bulldogs will face the host school in the 3:00 p.m. game on Sunday after holding the Titans to 25 percent shooting from the field in the second half.
Adrian and Westminster each shot in the 30 percentile in the first half as the Bulldogs led 22-20 at intermission. Adrian led by as many as nine points in the first half but Westminster closed the gap heading into locker room with a 13-6 run in the final eight minutes of the half.
The Bulldogs scored 12 of the first 15 points to start the second half and build a 34-23 lead at the 14:08 mark. Adrian stretched their lead to 20 points at 47-27 with 6:41 left on a jumper by Megan Bouwens. AC got a little scare as the Titans cut the lead down to 48-42 with one minute to play but good free throw shooting kept the game from getting out of hand.
Adrian scored 20 points off turnovers and 13 points off their bench. While AC was playing great defense in the second half, they also improved their own shooting percentage to 38.5 in the second half. AC made free throws down the stretch but still struggled overall at the line going 13-for-24 for the game. Anita Stamps led Adrian with 13 points on 5-for-9 shooting from the field in 23 minutes. Jennifer Perrin contributed 10 points and grabbed four rebounds in 26 minutes. Elysia Norris picked up her scoring with 12 points on 4-for-5 shooting including 2-for-2 from behind the arc.
Adrian (2-1) recorded 14 steals and blocked four shots. Kayla Fowler had a team-high eight rebounds in 15 minutes.
