TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -
The Bulldog baseball club took down another nationally-ranked team on Friday as they eclipsed the #13 Illinois Wesleyan Titans by the score of 9-2. The pitching staff did a fine job of controlling the IWU bats limiting them to seven hits and two runs in nine innings. Josh Lancaster got the start and went six innings to earn the win (1-0). He allowed five hits and one earned run while striking out three. The relief pitching of Tim Parent and Ryan Domschott did well in three innings allowing just two hits with five strikeouts between the two hurlers.
The Bulldogs scored twice in the first inning as the home team on a neutral site in Terre Haute, Indiana. Alex Cowart's two-run single with two outs gave AC a quick momentum boost. IWU tied the game at 2-2 after single runs in the second and fifth innings. Adrian scored twice more in the sixth inning to take a 4-2 advantage. Cowart led off the inning with his first home run of the season and Brett Miskokomon delivered an RBI single which scored Steve Vanderheyden from third.
Adrian then erupted for five runs in the bottom of the seventh to break the game open. Cowart continued his hot day with a sacrifice fly scoring Jake Cappelletty for the fifth run of the day. Vanderheyden singled to left field on the next at-bat which scored Nick Sarkissian with the sixth run and a four-run cushion. Kris Powell stepped up with the bases loaded and cleared the bags with a three-run double to right field putting the game out of reach.
Adrian (6-1) was led by Cowart's four RBI's and 3-for-4 day at the plate. Powell was 1-for-2 with a run scored, walk and three RBI's. These same two squads will battle again tomorrow with first pitch scheduled for 1:30 p.m.
