It was a dream start for Sean Dillon and the Adrian College men's soccer team on Friday afternoon. The Bulldogs opened up their 2008 season with a 3-1 win at Anderson and got off to a great start in the first half.
"We came out fired up and carried the play throughout the first 45 minutes," said head coach Evan Himes. "We struggled in the second half to recapture the same energy level but got a big penalty kick in the 58th minute which changed momentum for the rest of the game. Sean was very big today and Dan's first goal in the opening 10 minutes really gave us a boost."
Dan Weiss scored in the 10th minute with an assisted credited to Eric Drake. Drake led the Bulldogs with six assists a year ago and was named Second Team All-MIAA. Dillon made it 2-0 in the 32nd minute in the middle of the box.
Peter Boberg cut the lead to 2-1 in the 51st minute on assists from Stephen Girt and Matthew Young. Dillon's penalty kick goal in the 58th minute was the key play as Jordan Hobbs was issued a yellow card on the play in the box.
Boberg also was issued a yellow card for the Ravens in the 84th minute. Anderson committed nine fouls on the afternoon. On the defensive side, Alex Pavlika stopped six shots on goal as Anderson totaled seven shots on goal and 11 total shots. Adrian beat goalkeeper Hobbs three times while he made seven saves on 10 shots on goal and 14 total shots. Drake led Adrian with four shots on goal.
