The formula worked again on Sunday as the women's hockey team knocked off #9 UW-River Falls for the second straight day with a 3-2 overtime win. Adrian (11-5-1) has had a great deal of success against nationally-ranked teams this season also beating current #1 Gustavus Adolphus earlier in the season.
Lyndsay Laxton got Adrian on the board at 3:12 of the first period for her sixth goal of the season at even strength. The Bulldogs took a 2-0 lead at the 18:09 mark of the first at even strength as Jessica Grubbs netted her 14th of the year with assists from Stacey Kempson and Steph Dimini. Adrian was outshot 14-6 in the first period but made those six shots count.
UW-River Falls and Adrian did not score in the second period as UWRF held a 7-4 edge in shots on goal. The third period had the most scoring chances as this time it was River Falls who scored twice to send the game into overtime. Stefanie Schmitz got a power play tally at 9:56 and Abby Sunderman scored her eighth of the year at 16:10 at even strength.
Kempson played the role of hero in overtime as Laura Conrad went into the penalty box for a slashing minor at 1:43. She scored the game-winner with assists from Grubbs and Alexis Glenn at 2:21 sending the ladies home with their 11th win, which equals last year's win total.
Dana Timm made 33 saves for the Bulldogs including 12 in the third period.
