Defense and Free Throw Shooting Potent in 70-62 Win at Albion

ALBION, Mich. - Junior guard Jennifer Perrin scored a career-high 24 points and the Bulldogs moved into third place in the MIAA standings with a 70-62 win at Albion. The biggest stat lines that stood out in the road win for Adrian were free throw shooting and field goal percentage defense. The Bulldogs entered the game shooting under 60 percent as a team at the foul line but stepped it up by going 26-of-30 (86.7%) at the charity stripe. Adrian was 10-of-11 in the first half and 16-of-19 in the second half. The Bulldogs also played great defense in the first half as Albion shot 25.7 percent from the floor including 0-of-6 behind the three-point arc. Albion shot 42.1 percent in the second half but finished the game 2-of-12 from behind the arc and 10-of-15 at the stripe.

Adrian led 29-21 at halftime as Perrin scored 12 points on 5-of-6 shooting from the floor. Albion went on a 10-4 run to start the game and Adrian settled down going on a 7-0 spurt to grab an 11-10 lead at the 10:44 mark on a triple by junior guard Anita Stamps. Both teams were tied at 15-15 with 7:06 left in the opening half but Adrian closed out the half on a 14-6 run to lead by eight.

Adrian continued to lead throughout the second half but the Britons did cut the lead down to two at 37-35 with 13:08 left on a Courtney Teske jumper. Adrian weathered the storm and regained a double-digit lead at 52-42 with 4:42 to play on a Perrin layup. Adrian put the game away with five straight points as Stamps hit a three-pointer followed by a pair of free throws from Stamps. Adrian (13-5, 6-4 MIAA) hit 7-of-8 free throws in the final 1:25 to salt away a big road win and sweep the season series with Albion.

Perrin went 9-of-12 from the floor for the game and 6-of-6 at the foul line with five rebounds in 35 minutes. Stamps finished with 15 points and made four field goals including two three's. She went 5-of-6 at the stripe and corraled six rebounds with four steals in 32 minutes. Senior forward/center Jenny Carlson had a team-high eight rebounds and four points off the bench.
