Final Stats

ADRIAN, Mich. - The Adrian College men's hockey program added more hardware to the trophy case on Saturday afternoon clinching the MCHA regular season title for the second year in a row with a 10-1 win over Marian University. The showdown between first and second in the MCHA standings proved to be anti-climatic as the Bulldogs put on a show on Saturday and scored 10 or more goals for the fourth time this season.

The power play worked once again for the Bulldogs as they went 4-for-8 with a power play goal in each period. Marian went 0-for-7 with the advantage and finished the weekend 0-for-16 while Adrian was 7-for-14. The Bulldogs now have 32 points on the season and will be the number one seed in the upcoming MCHA Tournament. The Bulldogs will host the eighth-seed during the weekend of Feb. 20-21 at Arrington Ice Arena. Adrian will also host the Harris Cup Final Four the following weekend but must win their first round series to advance to that stage in the postseason.

Sophomore Shawn Skelly netted a hat trick and pushed his season goal total to 25. He scored the second, fourth and seventh goals of the afternoon for Adrian. Skelly scored a power play goal in the first period and now has 16 for the season which leads Division III. Sophomore Eric Miller scored his 14th of the year at 8:55 on a 4-on-4 in the first period to give Adrian a 1-0 lead. Skelly and sophomore Jeremy Klaver each scored power play goals to close out the period giving AC a 3-0 lead despite an even 11 shots on goal for both teams through 20 minutes.

Skelly's second goal of the day made it 4-0 at 1:12 of the second against goaltender Jason Jadczak. Jadczak replaced starter Cullen Caldwell who allowed the three first-period goals on 11 shots. Jadczak would give up the next two goals and played a little under 13 minutes before giving way to Matthew Lyon who finished the game in goal. Lyon made 16 saves in the final 27 minutes and allowed four goals.

Sophomore Brad Houston and sophomore Joel Workman made it 6-0, scoring within a span of 1:10 in the middle of the second. Skelly's third goal made it 7-0 at 14:24 and Marian finally got on the board with an Adam Freeman goal at 17:37 to make it 7-1 after two periods. Sophmore Mike Dahlinger scored his 11th of the season at 1:35 of the third and Workman and Klaver each scored their second goals of the game at 10:03 and 14:42.

Junior Kyle Frieday had two assists on the day as did senior Adam Krug. Freshman Mike Leone assisted on the third and eighth goal for the Bulldogs. Sophomore Brad Fogal made 15 saves in just under 45 minutes picking up the win. Sophomore Jeremy Cross made five saves in the third and freshman Marc Stuart made three saves in place of Cross.
