ADRIAN, Mich. -
The Bulldog football team had a seven-game winning streak against Albion snapped on Saturday with a 17-16 loss to the Britons. It was the third home loss of the season for Adrian (0-3).
The Bulldogs led for all of the game until 1:36 left in the fourth quarter. Albion was faced with a fourth-and-one at the Adrian 27-yard line and quarterback Spencer Krauss faked a handoff and rolled to his right. He found fullback Wes Dolan in the right flat and dumped off a pass which Dolan took into the end zone to tie the game. Mychal Galla's extra point gave the Britons a 17-16 lead.
Adrian had one more shot at winning the game and started a drive with 1:30 to play at their own 30-yard line. Albion was called for a pass interference which moved the ball to the 45. Mike McGee then completed three straight passes to move the ball to the Albion 23. The junior signal-caller then made a cardinal sin by trying to force the ball over the middle and it was picked off by Chris Greenwood at the four-yard line with 32 seconds to go. Albion simply ran out the clock after two Adrian timeouts to secure the upset win.
Adrian led 10-0 at intermission after Jared Edwards had a 29-yard rushing touchdown with 2:52 left in the second quarter and Justin Warner followed it up with a 21-yard field goal with 22 seconds until the break.
Albion got on the board with a defensive touchdown with 8:48 left in the third quarter as Greenwood returned an interception 39 yards to cut the lead to 10-7. Warner booted two more field goals in the second half from 35 yards in the third quarter and 33 yards in the fourth to give Adrian a 16-10 lead with 6:17 to play.
Albion's winning touchdown drive covered 60 yards in 10 plays and they converted two fourth-down plays in the process. Albion had 270 yards on offense while Adrian had 303. Turnovers plagued both teams as Albion threw four interceptions and Adrian threw three interceptions and lost a fumble for the first time this season.
Krauss was 15-of-31 for 138 yards for Albion. McGee was 14-of-30 for 135 yards and did not throw a touchdown in a game for the first time in 2009. Both teams missed a pair of field goals in the contest. Edwards had a good day on the ground with 129 yards on 15 carries. Sederick Dunbar picked off a pair of passes and now has five this season. Jarred Kwiatkowski led Adrian with 10 tackles and had two tackles for loss with one interception. Gino Panza had nine tackles from his defensive tackle spot. Adrian is now 3-3 overall and 1-1 in the MIAA.
