Adrian Hurt by Inside Game and Turnovers in 80-61 Loss at Siena Heights

ADRIAN, Mich. - The women's basketball team played cross-town rival Siena Heights on Tuesday night at the SHU Fieldhouse dropping an 80-61 decision to the Saints. The Bulldogs were hurt by the inside play of the Saints and committed far too many turnovers. SHU had 36 points in the paint and also scored 31 points off turnovers. Adrian by comparison had 20 points in the paint and 15 points off turnovers.

The game was tight in the first 10 minutes and Adrian led 19-14 at one point after a Jenn Headley layup at the 12:18 mark. The Saints took control of the game with a 15-0 run which gave them a 29-19 lead with 8:36 left in the first half. Adrian was held without a point for 4:18 during the run.

Adrian cut the lead back down to six at 31-25 after a Jennifer Perrin jumper with 6:46 to go in the first half. SHU closed out the half with another run and led 46-29 at intermission. The Saints were hot from the arc in the first 20 minutes going 7-of-11 (63.6%). They also benefitted from going to the free throw line 12 more times than the Bulldogs shooting 15-of-20 at the stripe.

The Bulldogs could not cut the lead below 12 points in the second half as the Saints went inside to establish a post and driving game. SHU had 26 points in the paint in the second half. Anita Stamps led Adrian with a double-double collecting 11 points and 12 rebounds. Katie Ross was the high-scorer for Adrian with 13 points making three triples in 25 minutes.

The Bulldogs shot 33.3 percent (21-of-63) for the game and were 14-of-21 (66.7%) at the foul line. Adrian did have a 49-43 edge on the glass with 20 offensive rebounds and 19 second-chance points. Adrian also had a 19-14 edge in bench points. Kayla Galecka scored nine points off the Bulldog bench and grabbed five rebounds.
