Senior Duo Leads Adrian to 65-52 Win at Bluffton

BLUFFTON, Ohio - The men's basketball team hit the road on Saturday in a non-conference matchup against Bluffton University and got great leadership from seniors Matt Wayne and Michael Staley who each had a big game in the 65-52 win over the Beavers.

Wayne did not shoot the ball particularly well but scored 15 points and grabbed 10 rebounds for his first double-double of the season. Wayne connected on six field goals and three free throws and corralled four of his 10 boards on the offensive glass. Staley shot 6-of-12 from the field and was 4-of-4 at the foul line for his 16 points. He also dished out seven assists and made two steals in 34 minutes.

Adrian seemed to take control of the game in the first half going on a 14-2 run which started at the 16:52 mark and ran until the 11:54 mark with the Bulldogs ahead 18-8 after an Anthony Strickland basket. Bluffton would not go away however as they regained momentum and tie the game at 21-21 with 7:57 left in the first half. Adrian went on another big run of 15-4 over the next five-plus minutes to gain breathing room at 36-25 with 2:57 left in the opening half.

Adrian led 42-27 at halftime and kept their double digit lead for the opening minutes of the second half. The Beavers had another run in them as they cut the Bulldog lead down to 52-46 at the 10:38 mark after a Tyler Neal jumper. The Bulldogs stepped on the gas and over the next four-plus minutes regained a double figure lead at 60-48 with 5:40 left in the game.

Strickland gave AC solid production off the bench with eight points and seven rebounds in 15 minutes. Wesley Reed also scored eight points and connected on a pair of triples in four tries. Adrian (2-2) shot 42.4 percent for the game and were 12-of-14 (85.7%) at the charity stripe. They held a huge 41-22 edge on the boards and turned it over just 10 times. The Bulldogs had a 26-10 edge in bench points and also had 20 second chance points.
