HOLLAND, Mich. -
The Hope Flying Dutch showed why they are one of the top programs in Division III with a 102-53 win over Adrian on Saturday. Hope showed Adrian very little love on Valentine's Day breaking a record that stood since the 1982-83 season. The Flying Dutch scored more points in a game against Adrian than any opponent in school history eclipsing the previous record of 100 held by Spring Arbor for 26 years.
The Bulldogs were without the complete services of junior Jennifer Perrin, who was battling illness over the past few days and played just eight minutes and scored just one point. Sophomore Megan Bouwens continued her recent strong play with a team-high 12 points and a team-high eight rebounds in 28 minutes. Freshman Katie Ross earned her first start in place of Perrin and finished with nine points on 3-of-6 shooting all from behind the arc.
Junior JaLisha Belle played 13 minutes off the bench and scored eight points on 3-of-5 shooting. Adrian shot 42.2 percent for the game and Hope managed to shoot 58.2 percent including a 62.5 percent clip in the first half. Jenny Cowen scored 18 points to lead Hope. Adrian (13-9, 6-8) has dropped four in a row and ended the game with 23 turnovers and just eight assists. Hope held a 44-18 edge scoring in the paint.
