ADRIAN, Mich. -
The men's tennis team played their first home match of the season on Thursday afternoon (Feb. 26) and dropped a 6-3 decision to Defiance College at the Merillat Center indoor courts. Adrian has fallen to 0-4 on the young season and the three points picked up today is the most up to this point.
The top two flights of singles saw Defiance control both matches and come away with easy wins. Adrian managed to win just five games in four sets. Alex Ziajor had a battle at three singles against Austin Kleman but a 6-4, 6-4 win went to Defiance.
Dominic Merollis got Adrian on the board at four singles in a three-setter against Adam Fausey. Fausey won the first set 6-4 before Merollis rallied for a 7-5, 6-4 finish. Branz Brandenberger made it two singles' points for the Bulldogs with a 6-3, 6-1 straight sets win at five singles over Trevor Ault.
Defiance won four of the six singles matches and then claimed two of the three doubles matches. The two and three doubles matches went into a tiebreaker as Brandenberger and Ziajor won 9-8 at three doubles. Kyle Austene and Merollis nearly had a win (9-8) at two doubles.
