ADRIAN, Mich. -
It is on to the MCHA Harris Cup Final for the second year in a row after an 8-3 semifinal win over Marian on Saturday afternoon. The Bulldogs' 25th straight win was never seriously in doubt against the fourth-seeded Sabres. Adrian (26-1-1) outshot Marian, 38-33, and had three power play goals in seven attempts.
Eric Miller scored 1:01 into the game on the power play with assists from Adam Krug and Shawn Skelly for his 17th of the season and 57th of his career. Todd Collins tied the game short-handed for Marian at 4:14 for his 11th of the year but 1:11 later it was Chris Stansik scoring at even strength just as Adam Freeman was coming out of the box. Stansik's goal was assisted by Skelly. Sam Kuzyk made it 3-1 after one period with his 10th of the season on a breakaway to the left wing with an assist from Krug.
Adrian was very solid in the second period scoring three more goals and keeping the Sabres off the scoreboard. Miller's second of the game at 3:39 made it 4-1. Krug's power play goal at 9:42 made it 5-1. Kyle Watson's eighth of the season at 19:23 really put a nail in the coffin.
Marian did score two goals in the third as Greg Copeland and Jason Ford each had a power play goal for the Sabres. Mike Leone scored at 2:52 of the period at even strength for his ninth of the year. Mike Dahlinger added his 14th of the year at 17:06 to conclude the scoring. Miller was awarded the first star followed by Krug with the second star and Skelly with the third star.
Brad Fogal made 30 saves in getting the win between the pipes. Jason Jadczak made 30 saves as well for Marian. Adrian will face the winner of semifinal #2 between MSOE and Lawrence tomorrow at 3:00 pm.
