ADRIAN, Mich. -
The women's hockey team bounced back from a tough defeat last night to defeat #10 Lake Forest, 4-1, on Sunday afternoon at Arrington Ice Arena. The two teams split the weekend series and Adrian (7-9-1, 5-3 NCHA) pulled within two points of league-leading Lake Forest (11-2-2, 5-1-2 NCHA) in the conference standings while handing the Foresters their first league loss.
Lake Forest scored first at 15:09 of the first period as Sam Herron notched her third goal of the season on the power play with assists from Jessica Dare and Jamie Sauer.
Jessica Grubbs tied the game at 1-1 at the 4:34 mark of the second period on the power play. The Bulldogs worked the puck around the top of their zone as Kelly Salis and Danielle Maludy got the puck to Grubbs who went over the top right shoulder of Alyssa Wintermute.
Lauren Anastos scored the game-winner at 8:43 of the second on a hard-working goal that was slid past Wintermute for her second of the season and the weekend series. Nicky Futers and Alysha Drouin were given the assists on the play.
The Bulldogs took care of business in the third period as Stacey Kempson scored twice at even strength. Kempson put Adrian ahead 3-1 at 6:57 going five-hole through a screen in front of the net for her eighth of the season. She followed at 17:07 with her ninth of the season with assists from Prenella Semma and Ashley Gniewek.
Adrian outshot Lake Forest, 36-24, including a 16-6 edge in the final period. Dana Timm played well in net for the Bulldogs making 23 saves. Adrian was 1-for-6 on the power play taking 11 shots. Lake Forest was 1-for-4 on the power play taking six shots.
