The women's basketball team moved into a three-way tie for third place in the MIAA standings on Wednesday night with a 58-45 win at Albion. It was a complete effort for the Bulldogs who led from the opening tip at Kresge Gymnasium. Adrian (9-9, 5-5 MIAA) won its third out of their last four on the road and are tied with Saint Mary's and Olivet.
Jenn Headley had a season-high 11 rebounds and also added eight points and two assists in 25 minutes. She was 3-for-6 from the field and 2-for-2 at the foul line. Anita Stamps led the team with 18 points and canned four triples in seven tries. She also grabbed three boards and had two steals in 27 minutes.
Stamps hit a three-pointer for Adrian's first points of the game and they were off and running. Albion kept it respectable in the first 10 minutes and trailed 17-10 at the 8:16 mark. Stamps built the Adrian lead to 20-10 on another triple with 7:54 left in the first half.
Adrian began to put the game further out of reach late in the first half as they stretched their lead to 33-19 on a Stamps layup with 1:42 to go in the half. Albion scored the first points of the second half to cut the lead to 12, but they would not get any closer as Adrian led by as many as 18 points on two occasions.
The Bulldogs shot 44.8 percent in the first half and were 5-for-10 from deep. Adrian finished the game shooting 36.8 percent and were 8-for-9 from the charity stripe. The team committed 13 turnovers, well below their season average, and scored 16 points off 17 Briton miscues. Adrian has a week off before traveling to Saint Mary's for a key MIAA matchup.
