The Adrian College men's basketball team made a late second half comeback to defeat Trine University by the final score of 51-50 on Saturday afternoon at Hershey Hall. Adrian was down 28-19 at halftime, but the Bulldogs used a team effort to outscore Trine in the second half to earn the win.
Blair Ramsey led Adrian with 11 points. Matt Wayne had another good game with 10 points and a team-high nine rebounds. The Bulldogs got additional scoring from Cody Barnes and Delano Collins. Collins was 2-for-2 from downtown and ended the game with nine points. Barnes also hit two from behind the arc to earn his six points.
Barnes scored the first bucket of the game to give Adrian a quick 3-0 lead. Adrian held onto the lead for most of the first half. Barnes hit another three pointer with 8:03 remaining to push the AC lead to 16-8. Trine answered with a 6-0 run in the span of two minutes to cut into the lead.
Wes Weir gave the Thunder their first lead of the game by hitting a three pointer with less than three minutes to play. Trine held on to the momentum and went on a 7-0 run to end the half giving them a 28-19 advantage after the first 20 minutes of action.
Trine enjoyed a comfortable lead for most of the second half. A layup by Weir gave the Thunder a 12 point lead with 9:33 remaining in the second half. The Bulldogs got into a rhythm after the shot by Weir and went on a 9-0 run to close the gap to 40-37. The Thunder held onto that slim lead late into the second half.
Blair Ramsey scored a layup with 24 seconds left to pull Adrian within two points (50-48). The Bulldogs called a timeout after the shot. After the timeout Adrian decided to foul Ian Jackson immediately. Jackson stepped to the free throw line and missed. Delano Collins grabbed the rebound to give Adrian possession, and the Bulldogs called another timeout to set up a play trailing Trine 50-48.
Ramsey's number was called out of the timeout, but he missed the jumper to tie the game. Matt Wayne pulled down a huge offensive rebound and got the ball to Collins who hit the go ahead three pointer with 12 seconds to play. The shot gave Adrian a 51-50 lead and Trine was forced to call a timeout. Trine decided to give the ball to Deon Thompson. Thompson turned the ball over, and a steal by Wayne iced the game for the Bulldogs. Adrian finished the game by going on a 23-10 run to earn the conference win.
