ADRIAN, Mich. - The Adrian College women's basketball team was defeated by Olivet College on Saturday afternoon by the final score of 52-49. The Bulldogs are now 6-6 overall with a 2-2 mark in the MIAA.

Elysia Norris recorded a double-double against Olivet by scoring a game-high 16 points and grabbing 10 rebounds. Forward Ashley McClarren came close to recording a double-double of her own as she scored 10 points and collected nine boards.

Adrian's offense was out of rhythm all game. The Comets opened up a 12-1 lead during the first six minutes of the game. During that stretch AC went 0-for-9 from the field and only connected on one of their six free throw attempts.

Both teams remained cold from the field as the score was 16-6 midway through the first half. Adrian cut the lead to 16-10 with six minutes to go and they were able to go on a 6-0 run during the final three minutes of the half making the score 21-16 going into halftime.

Olivia Yarrell had a good first half for Olivet. Yarrell was 5-for-8 and led all scorers with 10 points in just 14 minutes. McClarren kept AC close by grabbing seven rebounds and adding five points in the half.

Norris scored four straight points for Adrian to start the second half cutting the lead to 23-20. Michelle Hein knocked down a big three pointer to add cushion to the Olivet lead moments later.

Midway through the second half the Bulldogs found themselves down 41-30. They went on a 5-0 run to make the score 41-35 at the 7:50 mark, but the Comets held onto the lead. The action really picked up with under a minute to play. Norris hit a three pointer with 46 seconds to play making the score 50-47. Anita Stamps came up with a huge steal and finished with a lay-up on the other end to cut the lead to one with 28 seconds remaining. The Bulldogs had a shot to take the lead after forcing a Comet turnover, but they were unable to execute forcing them to foul. The Comets hit their free throws to secure the 52-49 victory.

Adrian will try to bounce back with a road game against Kalamazoo on January 13th.
