The women's bowling team competed in the UNOH Racers
Classic on Saturday in Lima, Ohio. After bowling six team
games and 16 baker games of qualifying, the team was in third place
going into the live TV step ladder finals. They would face the
fourth place team Wright State-Pink in a best-of-three baker game
match. In a very close match, Wright State-Pink won both games
winning 179-167 and 159-157. The team was led by freshmen Chelsea
Essenmacher and Emily Gesell. Essenmacher averaging 185.83 for the
day, made the All-Tournament team finishing fourth overall, which
is the highest individual finish in program history. She rolled
three 200 games on the day with a high game of 224. Gesell also
fired off two 200 games and finished sixth overall with an average
of 180. Sophomore Shannon McKowen also had a strong showing
starting off the day clean through 17 frames. Both McKowen and
Gesell each bowled a clean game during the team games, which is not
easy to do on a difficult sport pattern.
"The team continues to improve and now we have had three
different bowlers lead the way for the team in the first three
tournaments of the year," said head coach Jody
Fetterhoff. "I am very proud of how the girls bowled
under the pressure of a TV finals. We kept our composure and threw
good shots, unfortunately we got some bad breaks. I'm
confident with two weeks of practice until our next two conference
tournaments in Monroe, Mich. on Nov. 6 and 7, we will have a strong
showing."
