Box Score CORTLAND, N.Y. – The Adrian College
women's hockey started their season off with a bang as five
different Bulldogs scored goals in the 5-0 rout over Cortland. With
the win, Adrian will open their first home stand 1-0.
The first period was generous to the Bulldogs as they scored
four goals in the opening period alone. The scoring started off
with senior Nicky
Futers(Sarnia, Ont.) scoring at the nine minute mark of the
first period off an assist from fellow senior Lauren
Anastos(Farmington Hills, Mich.). Freshmen Lauren
Turner(Thunder Bay, Ont.) scored her first collegiate goal less
than two minutes later off assists from senior Jessica
Grubbs(Woodbridge, Va.) and junior Brooke
Zaleski(Toledo, Ohio). Sophomore Ashley
Gniewek(Southgate, Mich.) scored at the 17:59 mark off assists
from freshman Danielle
Smith(Highland, Mich.) and junior Olivia
Rork(Wayne, Mich.). Nina Laurie
(Palatine, Ill.) ended the period 70 seconds later with an
unassisted goal as the Bulldogs outshot the Red Dragons 17-5 in the
period.
The game settled down after the opening 20 minutes, as Adrian
managed only an unassisted goal by junior Kelly
Salis (St. Clair Shores, Mich.) with just over a minute left in
the second period. In all, 10 different Bulldogs had a point on the
night.
Freshman Emily
Michelin(Highland, Mich.) got her first collegiate win in her
first start, making 17 saves on the night.
Adrian will host their first home series starting Friday,
October 29 at 7:00 p.m. as they host Oswego State.
