Box Score HOLLAND, Mich. – The Adrian College men's
soccer team had an opportunity to extend its lead in the MIAA
standings on Tuesday, but fell in double overtime to Hope College,
2-1, at Van Andel Stadium. The Bulldogs are now 7-8-2 overall and
6-3-2 in the conference and fell a point behind the Flying
Dutchmen in second place. There are currently six teams within five
points of each other with three MIAA matches left. The winner of
the regular season earns the automatic berth in the NCAA Division
III Tournament.
The Bulldogs outshot the Flying Dutchmen, 21 to 11, on the night
and eight to five in shots on goal. In the second half alone,
Adrian outshot Hope 14-3.
Hope jumped out to an early lead with eight minutes left in the
first half. The Bulldogs remained down until 1:21 left in the
second half when sophomore Cazz
Warren scored the equalizer and his team-leading seventh goal
on the year. Warren scored unassisted on a breakaway and beat the
Hope goalie. After being tied at the end of regulation, the teams
headed into overtime, but remained tied after the first overtime.
However, it would not take long once the second overtime began as
Hope scored quickly, 18 seconds into the period.
In goal, senior Alex
Pavlika made three saves on the night.
The Bulldogs will look regain their position atop the conference
as they host Kalamazoo at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, October 30.
