Box Score ADRIAN, Mich. – The Adrian College men's soccer team stayed in the hunt for the MIAA title with a 1-0 overtime victory on Saturday over Kalamazoo. With the win, the Bulldogs are now 8-8-2 overall and 7-3-2 in the MIAA.
Needing a win to stay a point behind both Calvin and Hope who won Saturday, the Bulldogs were able to shutout the Hornets who earlier in the season scored three times. Adrian remained one point behind the leaders atop the MIAA with two games remaining in the season.
Both teams battled back-and-forth for the first 90 minutes as neither team was able to bury the ball home as both teams combined to take 28 shots in regulation. As the game went to overtime, the action settled down as it was not until two and a half minutes into overtime that the first shot was taken, and was the only one needed. The Kalamazoo goalie bobbled a sophomore Billy Cremeans free kick and freshman Matt Plawecki was there to clean up the mess and drill the ball into the goal for the victory. Both Cremeans and Plawecki had solid games as Cremeans took six shots, two on goal, and Plawecki had five shots, with two on goal.
Senior goalkeeper Alex Pavlika made a season high 10 saves to earn his second shutout in a row and fourth on the season.
Adrian will return to action on Wednesday, November 3 at 7:00 p.m. as they host Olivet College.
