Box Score ADRIAN, Mich. - The women's hockey team ran into an aggressive Oswego State team on Saturday looking for revenge, after the Bulldogs beat them 2-0 on Friday night. Oswego State came out with a 3-1 win over Adrian on Saturday as the teams split their weekend series at Arrington Ice Arena.
The Lakers scored the first three goals of the contest with one goal in each period. Kelly Collins got Oswego State going on the power play at 3:30 of the first period with assists from Megan Howe and Olivia Boersen. Collins cleaned up a loose puck in front of the net and beat goaltender Emily Michelin, who gave up her first goal this season snapping a 123:30 scoreless streak to start the season.
The Lakers made it 2-0 in the second period at 16:19 at even strength as Mackenzie Lee got the puck and wrapped around the goal to the right wing and fired a shot which got past Michelin. The unassisted goal put Oswego State in good shape for the final 20 minutes. The Lakers had a 28-23 edge in shots on goal for the game and the teams were tied at 17-17 after 40 minutes.
Boersen scored at 1:54 of the third with an assist from Howe to give the Lakers a 3-0 lead. Howe's initial shot was stopped by Michelin, but she grabbed the rebound and fed it across the crease to a wide-open Boersen. Stacey Kempson cut the lead to 3-1 at 14:16 for her second goal of the season. Nina Laurie and Danielle Maludy got assists on the play as Laurie made a good move to carry the puck across the blue line and was tripped up allowing the puck to go to Kempson who took it and put a wrister past Emi Williams at even strength.
The Bulldogs tried to cut the lead down to one in the final two minutes as they pulled Michelin for an extra skater in their offensive zone. They could not get that important goal and fell to 2-1 on the season. Michelin made 25 saves including 10 in the final period. Adrian could not take advantage on their power play chances going 0-for-5 for the game.
